Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe)

“Among the Igbo the art of conversation is regarded very highly, and proverbs are the palm-oil with which words are eaten.”

Nigeria / 1958

This book leads the African literary canon. It is a classic tale of colonial oppression and cultural stripping in Nigeria. It centers around an Igbo man's fall from grace amidst intrusive missionaries and cultural clashes. It's a stunningly masterful account of the cultural pillaging inflicted upon Africa by the European savages. This is absolutely required reading!
