How to Be Black is part comedy, part autobiography. Thurston draws upon his hilarious writing skills and his own life experiences to craft a ridiculously funny-entirely tongue-in-cheek- "self-help" book. Written as a satirical "how-to" manual, it reveals just how ridiculous stereotypes of Black people are.
In this excerpt, Thurston recommends that if you really want to be Black, you should start by singing a Negro Spiritual. Of course, this isn't the case. But that's what makes this book so hilarious and smart.
This is a highly, highly recommended read!
