U.S.A. / 1963
Dr. King wrote this open letter on the margins of a newspaper. In it, he asserts that people have a moral obligation to break unjust laws and take direct actions to dismantle white supremacy. This letter is still studied to this day for its beautiful language and its sophisticated persuasive techniques. As we remember MLK today, let us shy away from the dominant, sanitizing narrative that paints him as a docile, non-violent pushover who just wanted us all to play together. Let us remember that MLK was a revolutionary who believed in real action.
